Monte R. Haymon,(), is an Operating Partner at Watermill Ventures. Previously, he served as the President and CEO of Sappi North America. Mr. Haymon is an experienced and able executive who has been successfully running profit centers (revenue range $200MM to $2.5 bil.) in the paper, packaging, and plastics industries for over twenty-five years—with an excellent track record of growth and profitability. Prior to joining Sappi, Mr. Haymon spent over thirteen years as the head of the Tenneco’s packaging group. Throughout this span, he transformed Packaging Corporation of America from a domestic paperboard company to an international packaging company. Mr. Haymon achieved this feat through organic growth and acquisitions. This strategy put in place in the early 80’s was continued after he left, and today the original PCA has been split into two successful NYSE listed companies: Pactiv and Packaging Corporation of America. Before assuming the general management responsibility, Mr. Haymon held various positions in marketing, sales, and manufacturing. He is experienced in mergers and acquisitions, has international experience, and is well versed in the ways of managing leveraged companies. His management style, which emphasizes employee involvement, aggressive goal setting and strong execution, has proven to be successful in creating shareholder value even under unfavorable market conditions. Mr. Haymon’s academic credentials are a chemical engineering degree from Tufts University and Harvard Business School’s AMP Program. He is known in the financial community, a former member of the board of the American Forest & Paper Association, and served a ten year term on the Board of Trustees of Tufts University from 1994-2004. He also serves as Chairman of the Board of Overseers of the Engineering School. Currently he is on the Board of Directors of three public companies; Superior Essex, Agfa Geavert, and Office Max. He is married and resides in Boston, Massachusetts. |
